Abstract:
In the same way that we can render landscapes, production techniques and architectures, we can also recreate the physical appearances of peoples from the past (body, body modification and artefactual addition). What are the archaeological clues that allow us to reconstruct appearances? What are the limits? We will see that only a multidisciplinary archaeological analysis will provide us with the indications needed for a reconstruction. In the archaeological appearance evidence set, ornaments are the most ordinary artefacts discover in Pre-Pharaonic Egypt. So, We will use the ornaments to demonstrate the feasibility of an relevant analysis. Philosophy and Sociology, by making the analysis of appearances a fertile ground for research into identities, also offer us tools for interpreting these social constructed representations.
